What to Expect

Traditional format. Relaxed feel.

At Merritt’s Chapel, we strive to be a place where everyone feels welcomed. Our services are traditional yet relaxed—come dressed up or casual, sing along or simply listen. When we say, "come as you are," we mean it.

    • Learning more about God’s Word remains the most important element of our time together each week. The centerpiece of our service is biblical teaching that inspires, challenges, and deepens our faith, helping us apply God’s truth to our daily lives.

    • We sing classic hymns that have stood the test of time, as well as incorporate well-loved gospel and contemporary music into our worship.

    • We pray, sharing both our joys and concerns.

    • We read Scripture, listening for God’s voice in our lives.

    • Sacraments: Communion is observed during our worship service approximately once-a-month. All who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior are welcome to partake in this sacrament with us. Baptisms are also included in our worship service on special Sundays.

    • Our services typically last about an hour.

How do we worship?

The traditional elements of the Christian faith provide the foundation of our worship. They help to remind us of God’s presence, ground us in lasting truth, and connect us with the rich history of Christianity. We invite everyone into a mindset of worship with lighted altar candles and the bell ringing in our steeple. We read scriptures and foundational Christian creeds in unison, sing “Glory Be to the Father” (Gloria Patri), and say the Lord’s Prayer together.

Each week, our worship service is unique. We try to keep our time together fresh and engaging by incorporating a mix of music, seasonally relevant themes, and moments for inspiration and spontaneity. Our hope is that every person who joins us will feel moved by the presence of God as we worship together.

We focus on in-person worship. At this time we are choosing not to stream our services online. Merritt’s Chapel worship is best experienced firsthand, but we have always made a special effort as a congregation to reach out to members of our community who are unable to make it to church regularly. Please contact us, if you wish to be engaged in the ministry of our church, but are unable to join us in person.

What about your kids?

Families are always welcome at Merritt’s Chapel—children and parents alike are a valued and integral part of our church community.

Learn more about our Children’s Ministry.

  • Children are welcome and encouraged to be part of our service. After the first 15–20 minutes together in worship, we invite children to gather at the front of the sanctuary for our Children’s Sermon where they listen to a short lesson about faith.

  • After the Children’s Sermon, kids ages 5–12 are invited to attend Children's Church, where our dedicated volunteers lead engaging, age-appropriate activities which keep kids busy through the conclusion of the service.

  • Our nursery is available on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 12:15 for parents to drop off infants and toddlers. This allows parents to participate in Sunday School at 10:00 am and our worship service at 11:00 am while their little ones have the freedom to wiggle and play during that time.

You can find the nursery by exiting the left side of the sanctuary and proceeding to the end of the hall. Live audio from the sanctuary can be heard in the nursery.

Beyond Sunday Worship

While our worship service is the centerpiece of the life of our church, there are plenty of other ways to connect and grow with us.

We welcome you to drop-in and visit any of our areas of ministry. See where you might find a good fit.
